WHO ARE THEY FOR?
Whether you are a Principal Welding Engineer coordinating a project, or you are a recent Engineering Graduate who needs to communicate with supervisors and inspectors on the workshop floor, or you are a Welder who is looking to enrich and enhance your career, these courses can be tailored to suit your needs. They are designed to develop knowledge and enhance appreciation for the complex, often-overlooked welding process.
Training can be tailored for groups of 5 or more.
CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
These courses can be counted towards valuable Professional Development hours, which are a requirement for Chartered Status with Engineers Australia.
CPD, is not only needed to maintain technical competence but is essential to enhance effectiveness in the workplace, and stay on top of industry changes and innovation.
WELDING 101: 1-Day
This serves as an introductory course to the principles of welding for individuals from all walks of life.
Welding 101 includes hands-on welding experience at a basic level with welding processes including MMAW, GMAW, and GTAW.
Topics covered include:
- Understanding 3 arc welding processes (SMAW, GMAW & GTAW) in detail
- Understanding the concept of weldability
- The role of forces in the arc
- The implication of weld geometry, microstructure, and chemistry on weld integrity
SCIENCE OF WELDING: 1-Day
This program gets into more depth on the role of chemistry and microstructure on weld integrity. We also cover defects and the role of residual stresses on weld integrity.
Welding is an advanced Material Science. The science of welding introduces an advanced level of knowledge to aspects of welding.
Topics covered include:
- Solidification concepts
- Steel microstructural transformations
- The role of residual stresses in relation to defect formation
- Implications of critical cooling times and carbon equivalent on weld integrity
- Empirical estimators
COMMAND & CONTROL OF WELDING: 2-Day
This course covers welding QA/QC matters, including Australian Statutory requirements, in addition to covering the major points of visual inspection and testing.
Command and Control provides an understanding of the compliance and risk management associated with welded structures. This program now includes discussions on AS 4100-2020 and AS/NZS 5131 CC1, CC2 & CC3.
The program is suitable for key personnel managing welding projects or sub-contracted welded projects, including Managers, Engineers, and Supervisors.
Topics covered include:
- Management and coordination of welding activities
- Principles of visual inspection
- Principles of mechanical and non-destructive testing
- Inspection and test plans
- QA & QC document control
- Australian statutory requirements for welding
WHERE:
Traditionally we run the course at the AWS training centre in Adelaide, as we have a workshop with 10 welding bays set up for the candidates.
However, we can offer the courses on another site or interstate with a minimum of 8 candidates- additional travel costs will be incurred.
WHEN:
We can run these courses any time, provided we have a minimum of 5 participants to attend in Adelaide.
Let us know when you may like to study, and we can help find a date that suits you.
COST:
Welding 101 $650 + GST per person
Command & Control of Welding $1300 + GST per person.
The Science of Welding $650 + GST per person.
