The ACCC (Australian Competition & Consumer Commission) has recently handed down a hefty $515,000 penalty to an Australian company that misled small businesses over their safety and compliance needs, reminding us we should all be aware of our responsibilities and liabilities.
Safety and Compliance are not things you want to be too cavalier about, especially in high-risk industries such as ours (manufacturing, mining, oil & gas, etc.). Having too casual an approach can lead to a lapse in maintenance or compliance that could be pricey in the long run. Not to mention the obvious safety risk to operators, staff or the public. So it is understandable that the small businesses victimised in this case, thought they were better off being safe than sorry.
The best way to avoid being hoodwinked by those wishing to take advantage is to know and understand the compliance issues and WH&S regulations that apply to you.
AWS (Australian Welding Solutions) lives in safety and compliance- it’s kind of our thing. We can swoop in, extract the risk and ensure the quality of any welding project or pressure vessel.
Give us a call if you’re not sure where you stand, and we’ll help you get a sure footing in your safety and compliance needs.
