Aaron Buffett recently came to AWS from Norfolk Island for 10 days of customised welder training.

Aaron was born and bred on idyllic Norfolk Island and has a background working in trades and tourism, but now manages the refuelling and maintenance work at the airport on the island. He wanted to make sure his welding skills would be up to scratch and ready to handle anything, so he got in touch with AWS and organised a 10-day one on one welding workshop.

Barry Bennett delivered the training, and Aaron could not have been in better hands. Barry has worked for many years as a welding instructor at Tafe SA, welding supervisor and inspector, among other things.

The workshop was customised to suit Aaron’s job and what he wanted to learn. It covered GMAW, GTAW, MMAW welding of plate and pipe in all positions, including butt and fillet welds. The training involved lots of hands-on practice, and some theory on the science of welding.

Aaron has been happy with his training at AWS, saying he’s learned a lot and will return to Adelaide for a holiday with his wife, and might get qualified to a few more weld types in between visiting wineries.
