AWS Stand at the Sacred Heart College Pathways Expo
AWS Centre of Excellence (AWSCE) attended the Sacred Heart College Pathways Expo on 29 July 2026, giving students and parents an opportunity to learn more about careers in welding, fabrication and engineering.

AWS Centre of Excellence (AWSCE) would like to thank the Sacred Heart College staff and students who welcomed us to the College’s Pathways Expo on 29 July 2026.
A special thank you also goes to the SHC students who have already attended AWSCE basic welding training. We look forward to working with more Sacred Heart College students in the future.
Strong Interest in Welding
The AWSCE display attracted strong interest throughout the event. Staff spoke with students considering their future career options, as well as parents seeking practical information about training and employment pathways.
Weld Samples on Display
A selection of completed weld samples was on display, allowing visitors to see the skills and workmanship involved in professional welding. The samples helped demonstrate that welding is a highly technical trade requiring accuracy, practical ability and a strong understanding of materials and welding processes.
Defence Careers Generate Strong Interest
Careers in Australia’s growing defence industry were a major topic of discussion.
South Australia’s expanding defence sector is creating long-term opportunities for skilled workers across naval shipbuilding, advanced manufacturing, engineering and supporting industries. Welders and fabricators will play an important role in delivering these major projects.
Entry into the Industry
AWSCE staff discussed how practical welding training can help young people build the foundation skills required to pursue apprenticeships and entry-level employment. Students were also introduced to the longer-term career pathways available, including opportunities to progress into roles such as:
- Qualified welder or fabricator
- Leading hand
- Welding supervisor
- Welding inspector
- Welding technologist or specialist
- Supporting the Next Generation of Skilled Workers
Events such as the Sacred Heart College Pathways Expo allow students to explore career options beyond the traditional university pathway and speak directly with industry training specialists.
AWSCE was pleased to see such strong interest from both students and parents and to help young people better understand the opportunities available in welding, engineering and defence-related industries.
AWSCE offers practical Job Ready welding programs designed to help participants develop useful foundation skills and prepare for further training, apprenticeships and employment.
